The Irish people did not fit into the binarism of the British Empire.  They were neither colored nor English so where did they fit?  The English tried to make them fit into the category of savage by comparing them with Native Americans.  Irish beliefs were also labeled as superstitions rather than religion.  Who are the “misfits” of today?
