I started reading the story of Jesus’ life as Luke recorded it over the Christmas break. At first I was just going to read the Christmas story but I found myself reading further and have now decided to read the book. Have you ever found that when you try to read through a book you get stuck on a certain verse/phrase/section? Well that’s what has happened to me in Luke. I’ve re-read the same passage 3 times now. The first time I read it and stopped there. The second time I was going to read more but I started at the spot I had left and then couldn’t move past it. The third time I forced myself to move on, but ended up flipping back to re-read it. Oh, and get this, then it popped up in my facebook newsfeed! I’m thinking that this might be something that I need to hear? Think on for a bit? Pray about?
So that’s where I’m at right now.
Oh, and in case you’re curious, here’s the verse:
“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.” Luke 6:46-49
Solid rock. In a world that can seem to be filled with the chaos of shifting sand it’s really comforting to know that there are some things which cannot be moved.
